Need Weekend Plans in Atlanta? Check Out These Finds!

The end of the month is nearing and Fall is settling in, so all my single ladies (& those who are taken) what do you have planned for your weekend?  Check out my findings for what’s happening in the ATL this weekend. You MUST get out of that house chile!

Food

I LOVE a new restaurant and ladies if you can’t make it to Italy why not get the experience in your own city! Boccalupo is the place to be and to have received four stars from a fellow foodie, Jenny Turknett food blogger for the AJC, I think it’s worth a try!  The menu includes everything from pastas, to seafood, wonderful desserts and more. Check out the website below!

Additionally I just got wind that my favorite live performer, Chelsea Shag, is performing this Saturday night from 9:30pm til close at Tijuana Garage in Little Five Points. First let me say that I absolutely LOVE Tijuana's and to have live music playing is simply the cherry on top. I first heard Chelsea sing at the Twelve Hotel in Atlantic Station a few months ago, fell in love with her voice, and have been supporting her ever since. Want cheap, good eats with some lively tunes.......go to little Five Little Points!

My favorite picture of Chelsea! Follow her on Facebook www.facebook.com/szegababy

Fun & Adventurous
Scrolling online I found a free Fall festival in Hapeville this Friday night, October 18th  and this one is for the adults!!!  You and a group of your friends can travel out to Hapeville Jess Lucas Park for  Downtown Hapeville's Live Concert Series starting at 7pm and ending somewhere around 11pm. You can expect live jazz music and a variety of food vendors, and to make sure we're on the same page you got the FREE part right?!?!? So why not give it a try!!

Additionally, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday anytime between 9am-7pm, you can take a trip out to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for their enchanted Imaginary worlds sculptures. Now I have been to ABG before and I tell you it’s an epic experience. Admission is under $20 and there is so much life to take in mixed with a captivating ambiance. They have a restaurant there and so many others add-ons for you to enjoy, I highly recommend that you check it out!

Empowerment
As discussed last week the  The SingleWives Club Weekend will be in full effect starting Friday night at 7pm! Join this group of single and married women for a slew of events such as panel discussions, tea parties, empowerment and so much more! Ladies you must be there! Tickets for each activity can be purchased separately or as a package deal.

What to do About this Crush?

Question: I have a crush on this guy and I am not sure if he’s knows it or not. What should I do? Would it be too much if I told him?

Answer: Crushes are so freaking cute. I swear I have a new crush every other week and it’s exciting. My advice to you is to play it cool. If you change crushes anywhere as much as I do, you may not even have a crush on him next week so you don’t want to put yourself out there and look the fool. Just be nice, be yourself and let the process take its course.

If you are crushing mad hard then you may need to take a break. If he’s typically someplace you frequent, perhaps you should miss a few weeks. If you normally talk to him a few times a week, don’t reach out for a week or two. I am only saying this so you can put things into its proper perspective. We women have crushes on men God only ordained to be our friends, our associates, for us to lead them to Christ, or be an example for Him and we have secretly gone and married some else’s husband in our heads.

Lastly have fun girl. Flirt, be cute, brush up on your game, etc. Make sure you still got it so when your real Mr. Mr. shows up you have something fun and flirty to offer. Why not? Enjoy the little crush for what it is and keep it moving. Life is but a vapor so breathe boo, BREATHE!

Thoughts about Preachers of LA.....

Question 2: How do you feel about the show Preachers of LA?

Answer: Ok at first I was ready for some ratchet TV but I was pleasantly surprised. Some of those pastors on there are quite the handful and I have personal biases against a few (from years ago) BUT overall the show was pretty ok. I definitely would watch it again. There were moments of chauvinism and other vain pursuits that have absolutely nothing to do with God but I took that portion as men being men and Oxygen getting ratings!!! How does God feel about that……I don’t want to be there when it goes down!

I
want to make certain that I add as a bishop however you do have a greater call and responsibility on your life. As I watch the show with my eye focused on the content and character of the pastors portrayed, I do realize that everyone does not have that ability nor are they even considering that! So this show, like any other reality show can be damaging!

I wouldn't suggest someone validating their personal behaviors on the account of these men…..remember we each have to answer to God for our own lives. I also don’t think it’s safe to try and be like these men in any capacity, be who God called you to be, strive to be like Christ. I can’t determine what God has spoken to anyone but I know the Word of the Lord is the same and He never changes!!

Reality shows for the most part in my opinion are corrupt and have a lasting impact on the participants and viewers. If you watch the post interview with Pastor McClendon he says that the show was a set up! Duh all reality shows are! I’m not saying that I don’t watch reality TV but I do have to take it in increments and utilize a lot of discernment and with that the enemy still plays with my mind so I’m in no way immune. I will end by saying be careful with these reality shows, the underlying messages can be damaging, at the end of the day the producers are all about that mighty dollar bill!

Is it Possible to Forgive Someone that Doesn't Deserve It?

Question: How do you forgive the unforgivable?

Answer: First you have to understand what forgiveness is. To forgive according to Webster means “stop feeling angry or resentful toward (someone) for an offense, flaw, or mistake”. Next I would CHALLENGE you to consider yourself? Have you ever done anything offensive, do you possess any flaws, and do you make mistakes? If your answer is no to all three then perfect angel I now know, teach us all how to be like you! HA! I will venture out to say that you are guilty of 1/3 if not 3/3, so while its difficult when the offense is towards us, it’s equally as important to consider times when we have been the offender!.

Next ask yourself what does forgiveness look like? Forgiveness does not mean that you continue to engage in a personal or close relationship with the person you have forgiven. The choice is ultimately yours, but you don’t have to. Also forgiveness does not mean to forget! When traumatizing things happen to us they leave a memory, however I challenge you exercise that memory in a positive way. For example if you were deceived in relationship, instead of concentrating on why that person deceived you, thank God for showing you who that person truly was and saving you from a future of recurring heartaches. Rejoice in the fact that deception is something you do not have to put up with and move on!!! I know that is a mild offense compared to rape, or abuse, or lifelong consequences as a result of someone else’s selfishness but with God all things are possible and ALL things work together for your good. It may not seem like it initially, but Trust the Process.
Why should you forgive? You should practice forgiveness for yourself because that person could care less that you are upset. They are going on about their lives while you are pissed off because of something they did to you. Basically they gave you an unbearable weight, walked away, and you opted to keep holding it. LET IT GO! How can you let it go? Take that unbearable weight and give it to Jesus. He is stronger that any offense, any mistake, any flaw. He is stronger than any heartache, any STD, any pain! He is the life giver, so give your problems to Him so He in return can give YOU life. Please understand this process sounds simple but it is indeed a process. It takes time, God has to work on you, He has to make you stronger and complete but you 1st have to let Him. You can’t give something to God but bring it up every chance you get. You can’t give something to God but talk about it with your friends every chance you get. You can’t give something to God and constantly check FB pages, Instagrams, Twitters and such. It just won’t work.

Finally understand this: whoever this person is that has wronged you at the end of the day is a human being who makes mistakes, they have made mistakes & they will continue to make mistakes and unfortunately they may never gain the capacity to realize and understand how their actions or their words affect other people! Also never forget that hurt people hurt people! However none of that is any of your concern! Just accept that about the person and give all your questions, frustrations, and concerns about the matter to God!

Need Something to Do in Atlanta this Weekend?

Single ladies & those who are taken, need date ideas for this weekend?
 Kristen's got you covered!
Check out the exciting things I found going on in the city of Atlanta that is sure to keep you busy and out of the house this weekend.

Food
Welcome to Food Therapy
A friend of mine recommend a restaurant called Food Therapy here in Atlanta and I can't wait to check it out! I trust her palate so I feel its safe to share with you! For my single girls when the Friday or Saturday night starts to feel a little lonely, Food Therapy maybe exactly what you need! It’s reasonably priced, a meal and drink averages $20. So round up your girls or go there solo dolo and check it out! I have yet to try it myself but let me know what you think!! They serve Mediterranean cuisine and if you haven’t tried Mediterranean before it’s cuisine consists of a mixture of foods inspired from the Eastern Mediterranean, North African, and Southern European cultures. What that simply means is: IT’S GOOD!

Fun & Adventurous
Copper Blue 4.27.13
Scrolling online I found this really neat event called Wet Paint Atl. It will be held this Saturday the 12th from 7pm-1am. Ladies, I can’t even lie to you, when I saw the name of the event I was captivated and once I found out the tickets were only $6 in advance and $10 at the door, that really made me happy! If you know me you probably wouldn't expect me to attend or even recommend this type of event, but it seems SO FREAKING cool I would totally try it out. I really think it would be dope for a group of girls to get together and enjoy a night of the Arts! As a bonus this event is a networking mixer, that is complete with live painting, food, drinks and fun! What more can you ask for?

Empowerment

If you don't have time for any of the above events you surely have time to be empowered, don't you? If not, Make Time..... its critical! This weekend the Female Success Factor is hosting Linking to Success, a networking forum for women in business. This event will be Saturday the 12th from noon til 4pm. Oh and I forgot to add one minor detail…… it’s FREE. Registration information is below! AND so you can plan ahead, next weekend The SingleWives Club will host a slew of events for women, single and married, right here in the Atlanta area. From panel events, to tea parties and so much more, if you are a woman it's definitely worth checking out! Tickets for each activity can be purchased separately or as a package. Keep in mind this weekend long event is NEXT WEEKEND October 18th-20th!

I'm Dating Someone Who Feels Unworthy of my Love.....Help!

Question 3: Kristen I am in a long distance, unofficial, relationship with a man that I am absolutely in love with. We have been involved with one another for some years now, on and off, but the distance has been the primary hindrance in us taking things to the next level. Every time I share my feelings with him, he shuts down and tells me he’s unworthy of my love. How can I have a honest conversation with him about my feelings for him and at the same time address how his tendency to shut me down sometimes makes things difficult for me?

Answer 3: I challenge you to make an assessment of the relationship as a whole? Since you are in love, figure out how you got there and jot down the qualities about him that led you to this place. Perhaps sharing those specific qualities to him can better help him understand why you love him in the 1st place, and possibly paint a better picture as it relates to the extent of your love for him. People have different backgrounds, different life experiences, and so forth that have really slaughtered their self-esteem and totally distorted their self -perceived value. If you appear to be a confident and successful woman you may intimate them. If you are very beautiful and they themselves do not feel beautiful, or handsome in this case, they may feel unworthy of your attention.

Imagine this: A friend invites you to an event and when you arrive you find out that it’s a black tie event, however you have on casual clothes. How would you feel? What would you be thinking? Would you feel out of place, misinformed or misled, caught off guard, embarrassed, unworthy to be in that space, etc? None of those feels take away from who you are, however being in such an environment may make you feel uncomfortable, unworthy, or embarrassed. Now imagine that your friend, the party host, comes to you and embraces you at the event. She reminds you that you are beautiful, you aren’t out of place, that she’s so glad to have you there, that what you have on isn’t bad, everything’s going to be ok, and begs you to stay. Initially you may show resistance, you may feel that she is lying, that she’s being selfish, you may think she is just being nice, but as she continues to woo you and validate you, and work to make you feel comfortable, (if you decided to stay) you will notice your resistance diminishing and after a few drinks you will totally forget all about your negative feelings and your casual clothes.

Now connect this with the situation with your guy. In this case he is the person in the casual clothes, you are the party host. Continue to show him love and encouragement. If you know he feels insecure in certain areas complement him in those areas. For example if he’s overweight and you like his chunky, tell him!! Make up pet names for his stomach, like “your comfy pillow”, or call him your teddy bear, something that shows him that his perceived imperfections are perfect to you.

Another thing I want you to consider is #1 if this persistence is really worth it to you and #2 work on establishing trust. Sometimes working to show someone that they are worthy of your time or that you really like them is exactly that : WORK! It can be draining and sometimes discouraging, so if you have full faith in this relationship and you think this guy is worth it, work at being creative in your approach, practice patience, and be honest. Tell him the reasons why you absolutely adore him and let him know there is absolutely nothing he can do about that! By building trust you strengthen the relationship in many areas. The long distance may not be as big of a deal once you further develop trust. He will believe you when you say you really love him, if he trusts you. You will begin to trust him and the relationship will develop on something more solid than the on and off again years of unstable emotions and indecisiveness. It’s obvious he’s struggling with insecurities and if he has other astonishing qualities and traits that override that, then work with him. Nobody’s perfect!
